Paquin was the main character in the film Fly Away Home in 1996 and also had a small part in the film as Jane Eyre when she was just a young child. Paquin was Frankie Addams in a 1997 film adaptation for television of the novel by Carson McCullers The Member of the Wedding as well as a small role as the queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). She portrayed teenagers on Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000), A Walk on the Moon (2000). She also played the role of a teen girl named Polexia Aphrodisa on Almost Famous (2000).
